Research Overview

The research at the DIIM lab focuses on advancing fundamentals and applications of design theory, digital twin, and artificial intelligence for improving resilience, sustainability, and efficiency of various engineering systems, including human-robot collaborative systems, autonomous additive manufacturing systems, mass personalization service systems, and agricultural systems.

Research interests mainly include the following themes:
  • Smart Manufacturing: Leveraging enabling technologies, such as AI,digital twin, IoT to improve the transparency, traceability, efficiency, and resilience of manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Personalized Product : Developing data-driven methods and AI to support mass customization of personalized product and services, for example, personalized human-robot collaboration system.
  • Precision agriculture: Developing novel AI tools for supporting smart decision making and control of greenhouse operations and knowledge reuse.
  • Green Energy: Leveraging advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., Additive Manufacturing) and AI to support upcycling of EV batteries and agriculture waste into bio-fuel.
